Bible in one year: 1 Cor. 5-6
“You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He Who gives you the power to get wealth that He may establish His Covenant which He swore to your ancestors, as it is to this day." (Deuteronomy 8.18)
Often times we are usually fast to claim the promises of God in both the Old and New Testament, but always foot drag to accept and obey a commandment we see in the Word; especially if we believe we are not required to fulfill anything that is under the “Old Covenant”. We usually subject the commandments to debate.
However, a mind renewed in the Truth of the Word of God will not consider the voice of the flesh. A renewed mind and a person, who wants to be blessed, will be willing and obedient to do whatever the Word of God says.
One way of remembering the Lord and acknowledging that it is He Who prospers us (gives us the power to get wealth) is by giving Him the tithe of all our increase. It all belongs to Him, even the part we are privileged to manage and use for our own needs – for the Scriptures say: “The earth is the Lord’s and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein….The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine, says the Lord of Hosts.” (Psalm 24.1, Psalm 50.12/ Haggai 2.8)
God gave His best gift for us – His dear and only Son, Jesus Christ. Why should we be bothered about giving Him our best? This is why tithing is the basic or minimum requirement in stewardship. Under the new covenant, God is asking for more than tithe. He is asking for our all. As partners in covenant, all that we open belong to Him and vice versa.
Make a Covenant with God to become a faithful tither today. Pay your tithes.
